OPM now also stands for Original Pilipino Musical -- I DO BIDOO BIDOO Heto nAPO Sila Movie Review

POTATO ON THE GO REVIEW (Movie):

I just arrived from the premiere night of a much anticipated Filipino movie entitled I DO BIDOO BIDOO produced by Studio 5 and Unitel Productions.  Normally, I don't (and can't) write reviews right after a premiere screening because that's just not possible, am no Superman!  :)  But I can't help but do this as soon as I arrive home because I was really in awe and hooked by this I DO  BIDOO BIDOO fever!

I DO BIDOO BIDOO is a movie musical drama comedy inspired by the songs of APO Hiking Society, a singing group composed of Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garrovillo, who is considered as the pillars of OPM or Original Pilipino Music for more than 4 decades already.  And with the arrival of this movie this year, OPM now also stands for Original Pilipino Musical!  At last, we now have our very own, 100% and authentic modern movie musical!  :)

Madonna's directorial debut W.E. arrives in theaters this September

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

With The Weinstein Company’s romantic drama “W.E.,” Madonna, one of the world's most famous women, tries to clean up the stained image of another famous American, Wallis Simpson — "that woman" for whom King Edward VIII gave up his throne in 1936, causing a crisis unprecedented in British history.

Simpson has been dead for nearly 26 years; her ex-king husband, the Duke of Windsor, has been gone for nearly 40. Neither had a good end but their story lives on as one of the most reproduced of royal sagas on stage and screen for most of the 20th century.

Brace yourselves for the spooky characters of HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA!

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

Meet the owners and guests of “Hotel Transylvania” – Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them.

Dracula (Adam Sandler). All of the qualities that make the Prince of Darkness the indisputable leader of monsters—his strength dominance charisma and perhaps over-controlling nature-—also happen to make him an excellent hotel manager. Problem is, where his daughter Mavis is concerned, he’s a softy. Fearful for his daughter’s safety, he’s kept her in the sanctuary of his hotel her entire life, away from the torch-wielding humans he remembers so well. But now, on the eve of her 118th birthday, he must keep a promise he made to let her see the world for the first time.

Mavis (Selena Gomez) is totally pampered by her father; however, she is headstrong and smart, and in many ways, a typical 118-year-old teenage girl. She’s grown slightly bored with the domain of her childhood—she has lived within her father’s hotel and its grounds all her life—and she longs to travel, experience life and see the world. Now, she’s met a newcomer who could make that a real possibility: but should she leave and risk breaking her father’s heart, or remain, and break her own?

For centuries, the Chinese are regarded as pioneers in business. Ask a non-Chinese about a characteristic that best define them and you will likely receive this answer: good in business (the other is rich but that is the by-product of the first answer). Sometime in June, Forbes released its much-awaited 2012 Philippines’ richest. Not surprisingly, more than half of the 40 entries in the list were of Chinese descent, and not even critics can discount the economic value they contribute to the Philippines.

What's this TaDi #MovieMood of the Day? :)

POTATO ON THE GO FEATURE (Movie):

If you've been following TaDi, through the blog (www.digitista.blogspot.com), Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/digitista) or Twitter (@tatak_digitista), you could have probably noticed the TaDi Movie Mood of the Day (with a Twitter hashtag of  #MovieMood).  These are movie titles and posters of some movies, old and new, Filipino and foreign, of different genre.

There's nothing special about it but it's just TaDi's way of expressing his present mood or emotion of the day.  So it's how TaDi feels and probably what he wants to watch if ever that movie is accessible at that time.  :)  So instead of choosing a song for how TaDi feels, he picks a movie title instead.

Skylight Films' new horror movie AMOROSA opens on August 29

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

When Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang hit theaters earlier this year, it was billed as a Skylight Films production distributed by Star Cinema. People were puzzled. They were familiar with the latter, but the former was alien to them. So at the time, the question on their minds was, “What is Skylight Films?”

According to Star Cinema’s Enrico Santos, Skylight Films is the newest unit in ABS-CBN Films. It was established sometime last year, but only started actively making movies this year. “It is the network’s ‘maindie’ or ‘mainstream-indie’ film unit. It’s not a label of Star Cinema. We don’t do the kinds of movies that Star Cinema makes, like yung mga family dramas. Ours have more edge. They’re not as experimental as the indie films made for Cinemalaya, but they’re indie pa rin, although we do try to cater to and entertain mainstream sensibilities.”

Good Music Lives Forevermore as Side A's Joey G Takes a STAND (The Launch of Joey G's Debut Solo Album STAND)

POTATO ON THE GO FEATURE (Music):

What is one way to know how close you are with your friends?  If you know each others' preferences in music, and eventually share them together, I guess both of you somehow are in the so-called closer circle.  :)  I asked this because based on my experience, my friends who knew me really well know the music I listen to.  And they know that during our growing up years, one of my most favorite OPM bands is Side A!

From outings to get togethers, from "drinking session" to food trips, from road trips to our endless press work at our campus publication office, they can always here this brand of music when I'm around.  :)  In fact, if my friends are walking towards our publication office, they just actually know if I'm around because they can hear the songs of Side A such as Hold On, Don't Know What To Do, Tuloy Pa Rin, Foreveremore, Tell Me, etc. etc  Hehe.  That's how Side A ruled my life's musical score, and my friends' too, whether they like it or not, although it's always the former. ")

While the band may not have been as active as before, I heard one good news that really lifted my spirit!

Recently, I just learned that Joey G, Side A's frontman and one of the country's most loved crooner, is now going solo, and has come up with his own album!  So the moment I got an invite to the press launch of his album, I immediately said yes!  How can I let this pass right? By the way, thanks for that awesome opportunity Warner Music!  :)  And yes, the album is produced by premium record label Warner Music!

POTATO ON THE GO REVIEW (Movie):

Teen flicks, romantic comedies, chick flicks -- more often than not, they are certified hits among viewers.  But while the masses love them, critics and serious film enthusiasts see them as nothing but sweets with no nutrients.  But in a recent movie I've seen, I realized a sweet teen flick can actually have meaning... can actually provide nourishment, if done right.  I'm talking about GMA Films' recent offering JUST ONE SUMMER starring one of today's most in-demand and hottest love teams Julie Anne San Jose and Elmo Magalona.

Acclaimed director John Hillcoat (“The Road”) delivers a thrillingly vivid slice of American outlaw history in The Weinstein Company's critically-applauded epic gangster tale, “Lawless.” The film will be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma).

An official competition entry in last May's Cannes Film Festival, “Lawless” is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: three bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. Based on author Matt Bondurant’s fictionalized account of his family, The Wettest County in the World, the film gathers an ensemble of gifted, dynamic new-generation stars – Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan – alongside two of the finest actors of their generations, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.

Get ready for Ben Stiller's sci-fi comedy THE WATCH starting September 5

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

Meet the neighborhood watch: civic-minded Evan (Ben Stiller), fun-loving family guy Bob (Vince Vaughn), tough-talking “wild card” Franklin (Jonah Hill) and the looking-for-love divorcé Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade). In a seemingly serene suburban enclave and safe haven, Evan Bob, Franklin and Jamarcus have decided to join forces to safeguard their community. In addition, they’re enjoying some of the perks that come with being a “Watcher”… like drinking beer and just being guys. But when the guys’ patrol vehicle hits something that leaves behind a trail of green goo and a tentacle of some sort, and they find a strange, bowling ball-like device that emits a concentrated beam of energy – they realize that their little group has stumbled onto something bigger than a prowler on the loose.

“When they formed this ‘band of brothers’, the guys thought, sure, they might encounter some weird neighborhood stuff – maybe a burglar here, or peeping tom there – but suddenly they realize they’ve facing something extraordinary,” says producer Shawn Levy, the director of such hits as “Night at the Museum” and “Real Steel.” “And The Watch is not just unprepared or unqualified, it’s not remotely equipped to deal with this problem; yet it’s all on them to stop it.”

The Daddy and The Doggie -- DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOG DAYS Movie Review

POTATO ON THE GO REVIEW (Movie):

We were kids once in our life but as we grow old, it's a mystery why we have become unfamiliar with the thoughts and actions we once entertained and hence get us disconnected with the new young ones. Is it because we now know how foolish we were?  :)  This is the thought that ran in my head while watching DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOG DAYS last August 11 at SM Megamall sponsored by 20th Century Fox.  The questions / reactions in my head were: Are kids really this bold right now? Did I do such things before?  Oh, the parents need to be extra vigilant!  :)

Based on the book by Jeff Kinney and directed by David Bowers, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOG DAYS  stars Zachary Gordon (Greg Heffley), Devon Bostick (Rodick Heffley), Rachel Harris (Susan Heffley), Robert Capron (Rowley Jefferson), Steve Zahn (Frank Heffley), Connor and Owen Fielding (Manny Heffley), Peyton List (Holly Hills), Karan Brar (Chirag Gupta), Grayson Russell (Fregley), Laine MacNeil (Patty Farrell) and Oliver the dog (Sweetie).

Catch Katy Perry in her first solo movie (and it's in 3D!!!)

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

The first woman in music history to produce five Number One singles off of one album, Katy Perry has scaled the heights of pop music stardom few have reached before her. So when the artist invited two young filmmakers to tag along (and “catch everything on film—nothing off-limits”) as she circled the globe on her record-breaking “California Dreams Tour,” she thought it might produce something of interest to her legions of fans. But it proved to be bigger than anyone could have predicted.

The result is the 3D movie music event of the summer—Katy Perry: Part of Me—a backstage pass, front row seat and intimate look at the fun, glamorous, heartbreaking, inspiring, crazy, magical, passionate and honest mad diary of Katy herself.

Dracula's HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA (exclusive for monsters!) opening soon!

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

Welcome to “Hotel Transylvania,” Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula (voice of Adam Sandler) has invited some of his best friends – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Werewolf family, and more – to celebrate his beloved daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. In the vampire world, that signals the time to break out from the sanctuary.

For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but everything could change for the overprotective dad when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis (voice of Selena Gomez).

A First Look at the Monumental Epic Movie NOAH

POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

Project NOAH.  Massive Flooding.  God's curse (which was ridiculously associated with the RH Bill issue).  These words frequented the papers, radio, TV and social media recently with the non-stop rain and heavy flooding that affected Metro Manila and Luzon in the Philippines.  And these terms relate to one thing - NOAH, the biblical character in Genesis that God called to lead His people to salvation during the great flood.

And his story will again be told via monumental epic movie with the same title under Paramount Pictures.  Academy Award winner Russell Crowe will play the role of NOAH.
