THE WOLVERINE ripped off box-office records


POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Movie):

"The Wolverine" ripped through new box-office highs earning P95 million on its four-day opening weekend in the Philippines and has now seized the Biggest Opening Weekend title for a Fox film all-time and is now the Highest Opening Weekend in the X-Men franchise.


Hugh Jackman's 6th donning of the adamantium-clawed hero evidently drew a stronghold of supporters and fans when "The Wolverine" yielded a solid P19 million earn on its opening day (July 25) with a tallied admission of 105, 045 in more than 300 screens in the country. The first opening day figure of "The Wolverine" ebbed down "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith's" hold as the Biggest Opening Day for a Fox film All-Time. Likewise, "The Wolverine's" opening day box-office also surpassed "Captain America," "Iron Man," "Thor," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "X-Men First Class" and "X-Men: The Last Stand."

HP Workstation and DreamWorks collaboration in full speed for TURBO animation

Dreamworks releases trailer of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

The recent release of DreamWorks Animation’s “How To Train Your Dragon 2” trailer thrilled fans worldwide as the faithful dragon Toothless and his best friend Hiccup soared on air once again.


 At the tail of the success of the first movie, Toothless and Hiccup are back for bigger adventures, laughs and battles as additional voice cast were revealed in this year’s Comic-Con event. From the phenomenal series “Game of Thrones,” Kit Harrington voices an amusing dragon-trapper named Eret whom he describes as very cocky and brazen; Cate Blanchett who’s known for her role in “The Lord of the Rings” franchise also joins the cast as Valka, a savior of dragons while Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) is cast as the voice of Drago Bludvist who chases dragons for personal vendetta.

Mario Maurer's horror-comedy movie PEE MAK opens in Philippine cinemas this August

In its continuing celebration of its two glorious decades in the movie industry, Star Cinema distributes to Philippine cinemas Thailand's highest-grossing film of all time--"Pee Mak," a one-of-a-kind horror-comedy film that stars Thai superstar Mario Maurer. Feeling abandoned by his father and finding out that he has a half-brother who is a Cyclops, Percy soon deals with an enormous task ahead along with his teen demigod friends Annabeth and Grover along with his newfound brother Tyson to save their world from extinction.


Alexandra Daddario returns as Annabeth Chase, the demigod offspring of Athena, goddess of wisdom, the role she created in “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” One of Percy Jackson’s best friends, she took a while to warm to Percy when they first met, coming around only after he showed his mettle in a game of Capture the Flag. She joined Percy on his quest to find the Lightning Thief and once again to recover the Golden Fleece.

Recent early screenings of “The Wolverine” thrilled fans when it revealed the much talked about scenes after the credits leading to the events of Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”


Hugh Jackman enthused and confirmed that there is in fact an after-credits teaser, which they consider as the tease of all tease. “There’s a lot of great actors in it, and if you stick around to the end of the credit of The Wolverine, you’re going to get a really nice Easter Egg for what Days of the Future Past has to offer…which we can’t reveal!” says Jackman.

Marvel Studios starts shooting of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

SEVENTH SON presents seven new posters!

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have rolled out seven new character one-sheets for their fantasy action adventure “Seventh Son.” The posters separately highlight the seven important characters played by Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou and Julianne Moore.


In the film, Master Gregory (Bridges) is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Moore), centuries ago. But she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.

Skyscanner reveals women make the travel decisions!

Travelling? It’s the women who make the call! According to the recent survey conducted by leading global travel search site, Skyscanner, almost 91% of women say that they do most of the research when planning a holiday, with just 9% claiming their partner does it. The survey, which questioned 1000 international travellers, reveals -- of the men who admitted their partner did the research, a third claimed it was because their partner was better at it and could find better deals, while 1 in 10 admitted it was simply because they were too lazy!


“Filipinos usually consider travelling a family affair. Although travelling is the perfect R&R for the family, planning a family vacation can somehow cause more stress. So many factors are taken into consideration when planning a trip – budget, location, dates and convenience.” says Skyscanner Philippines Manager, Janet Ranola.

Join the search for Philippine Gems -- the next mainstream tourist destinations!


BAYANIHAN REPUBLIC:

When we talk about Philippine tourism, the places that come first to our mind our Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, Baguio, Puerto Princesa, Davao and Manila.  Of course, we are proud of these destinations but I believe many Pinoys, and foreigners who fell in love with the Philippines, would agree with me that there are a lot more to see and experience in the country.  The Philippines wouldn't be more fun if we don't have these other attractions right?  :)


The concern though is not all are aware of them.  But Isla Lipana & Co., the Philippine member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, as it celebrates its 91st anniversary launched a corporate social responsibility project that will answer this problem.  Isla Lipana & Co. launched Philippine Gems to promote the next mainstream tourist destinations.  For someone like me who's passionate about our country's rich natural and cultural heritage, this is such a great news for me!
