Chris Pratt, the only choice to play Peter Quill in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

Bound-for-stardom Chris Pratt (“The LEGO Movie”) plays a brash space adventurer named Peter Quill, who was zapped into space at the age of nine, in Marvel's “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The filmmakers’ search for Peter Quill, the leader of the Guardians was extensive. Many actors were considered as contenders for the role but it was Pratt, best known for the role he plays in “Parks and Recreation,” and who was beginning to make a significant mark for scene-stealing roles in “Moneyball,” “The Five-Year Engagement” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” who triumphed. His ability to effortlessly switch between drama, comedy and action, together with his incredible charm, made him not only a great choice but also the only choice.

WWF Research Vessel Transforms Into A Sea Classroom

In 2012, I was fortunate enough to have boarded M/Y Navorca, WWF's Research Vessel in Tubbataha and Apo Reefs.  I was there for an expedition with Kara David of GMA and Atom Araullo of ABS-CBN to document Tubbataha and learn about Cebu Pacific's Bright Skies program with WWF.

It was a great learning experience to know how the value and we can really take care of the environment, especially our marine wonders.  So when I heard about M/Y Navorca being transformed into a sea classroom, I can't help but be happy about it because now, educators can learn first hand the value and process of environment conservation.

5 reasons why I still have hangover with BEGIN AGAIN!

POTATO ON THE GO REVIEW (Movie):

The movie BEGIN AGAIN is a big surprise for me.

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN tells the story of two lost souls who meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own.

Disgraced record-label exec, Dan Mulligan (played by Mark Ruffalo) is facing a failing marriage, a career he can’t keep up with, and a daughter he can’t connect to. But at his most desperate moment, he hears a powerful song by Gretta, an unknown musician on the brink of giving up her musical dreams after unexpected heartbreak and frustration. An unlikely pair who are brought together by equal parts inspiration and desperation, the film follows them as their musical partnership develops into a deep friendship, and their lives take unexpected turns..”

I didn't expect that I will be blown away in a big way by this movie.  And I heard other people too are still in hangover with the film -- and its music!  Why?   I could only think of 5 reasons:

1. It's a LIFE MOVIE.

As a film buff who eventually became a movie blogger for several years now, I always expose my self to all kinds of cinema - good and bad, major production and indie, local and foreign.  One of my comms trainees asked me, what is a good film for me.  I said it depends on the film genre.  A serious film should open my mind, a comedy film should make me laugh, a slasher film should frighten me like when I ride a horror train, a romantic movie should make me fall in love.  But if there's one genre that encompasses all, I will call it a life movie.  And this is what I saw in  BEGIN AGAIN.

The Rise of the Ape Nation in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

10 years after the Simian Flu virus almost wiped out man’s kind, a nation of apes is thriving despite the virus – growing stronger and multiplies in director Matt Reeves’ most awaited sci-fi action of the year, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” starring Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman and Andy Serkis.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” follows what transpired on the previously released film, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” where Caesar, captured by Serkis, his journey took him from orphaned baby, raised in a human household, to abused prisoner in an insalubrious ape sanctuary, to the liberator of a whole army of apes, artificially evolved to super-intelligent levels by a man-made serum. That film concluded with Caesar’s community disappearing into Muir Woods near San Francisco, before the same serum, in viral form, wiped out most of humanity.
