Thor hits the big screen with lightning and thunder! -- Thor Movie Review

Potato On-the-Go:

As someone who grew up in Marvel and DC superheroes, the movie adaptation of comic and animated characters always tickles my imagination.  I've always been excited how film greats can transform such elaborate characters, spectacular scenes and magnificent settings, well considering of course the cinematic license for some variations in the story.  Sometimes, I'm dissatisfied but most often, I am always left in awe -- Spider Man, Dark Knight, Iron Man, to mention a few.  But this time another superhero comes with a big bang and it's no less than THOR!

Thor is a superhero film based on a comic and cartoon character created by Marvel comics.  The Thor character, on the other hand, is a fictional superhero based on the Norse mythology's character Thor, who is the God of Thunder.  He was created by editor Stan Lee, scriptwriter Larry Lieber and artist Jack Kirby in August 1962.

And the answer is: MONICA BELLUCI!

Among those who joined and got the right answer, their names were raffled off, and one name was picked up to win the PhP 500 Gift Certificate from Buon Giorno Caffe & Bistro.  And the lucky winner is... NHERZ ALMO!

Karl Urban plays vampire leader in upcoming thriller "Priest"

Potato On-the-Go:

When I first heard about the movie "Priest", my first reaction was there's already a drama film (about a gay priest) of the same title several years ago.  But when I saw the teaser, I then realized that this up coming one is the movie adaptation of the comic book!  And I immediately get awed and excited on the film.

Columbia Pictures recently shared that Karl Urban (“Star Trek,” “Lord of the Rings”) is part of the cast of the new, post-apocalyptic horror thriller “Priest” as Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers. He’s a former priest and vampire hunter, but now fancies himself the god of vampires.

Finding the last craftsman of pastillas de leche wrapper of Bulacan

BAYANIHAN REPUBLIC

I started my blog in the week of February 22 to 25, 2010 and today, I have just written my 100th story / blog post.   And I wanted the 100th to be a special one.  As such, for the 100th story of Tatak Digitista, under the Bayanihan Republic section, I especially picked this one and and actually conducted field research and interviews to complete the story.

Nanay Luz Ocampo, considered the last craftsman of pastillas de leche wrapper of Bulacan

When new found friends or colleagues always learn that my family is from Malolos, Bulacan, they usually ask a request from me to bring and let them taste Bulacan's native delicacies like inipit, kakanin, ensaymadang Malolos and... pastillas.  I usually tell them the story about pastillas de leche and the lola (grandmother) who makes well crafted pastillas wrapper (also called pabalat), considered to be the last of her kind.  The promise I give my friends is, once I found this lola, I will surely bring the said delicacy as pasalubong (pasalubong is a Filipino tradition where one brings gifts, tokens or delicacies from the place he visited or came from).  Oh my, what have I gotten myself into?  =)

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules movie review -- The family movie sans the melodrama!

Potato On-the-Go:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid initially seemed to be a pretty mysterious story for me, a dark yet funny narrative told and sketched on white pages.  And that mystery pulled me to watching the film.  So when 20th Century Fox invited me to the press screening of the second installment of the movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, in Glorietta 4, of course, the word "no" was nowhere to be found in my vocabulary.  =D

Based on the book originally written by Jeff Kinney, Rodrick Rules is directed by David Bowers and stars Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn.

Growing up with Arthur -- Arthur Movie Review

Potato On-the-Go:

We are fascinated with stories of royalties, heirs, famous celebrities... the rich and the famous, those who seem unreachable... unreal.   Then rich boy falls in love with poor girl.  Our fairy tale is then realized.  But sorry to disappoint you, the movie Arthur is beyond that.

I saw the sign =D

Scene Stealers:

Signs.  Sometimes they're informative, sometimes they are just simply funny.  While scanning my digital files, I saw these three shots and I remembered how these made me laugh silently (is there such a thing!) when I captured them in photos.  See for yourself!  =D

This one is taken at a public market.  In English, the sign says, "PhP 20  per 1/2 kilo.  My peanut is reddish."

Buon Giorno is more than Good Day, it's Good Food!

Taste Bud:

I love Italian food.  But I must admit, I carefully choose which restos to go to as real or hardcore Italian dishes are always in friction with my taste buds, because they sometimes can go too sour or spicy for me.  Well, I can try it once or twice but for me to come back and crave for it is another story.  I usually like those with American or Filipino touch but if ever I'm really up for original Italian, I make sure it won't be too alien for me.   Forgive me but I can't let go the "Juan" in me =).

Rio rocks and goes samba too! -- Rio Movie Review

Potato-on-the-Go:

Samba.  Bossa Nova.  Havaianas.  Capoeira.  And even up and coming models and actors.  The touch of Brazil is really everywhere.  And when we thought we have it all, well let's brace ourselves for another Brazilian influence coming up, this time in the big screen -- presenting the 3D animation from 20th Century Fox and  Blue Sky Studios... Rio!

The Dark Secrets of Camelot

Potato-on-the-Go

King Arthur.  This is one of the many literary masterpieces that my father introduced to me when I was young.  Indeed, I grew up with the story of King Arthur, whether it's an animation, a live action movie or a mini series in television.  And I guess I won't be able to forget my dad's legacy as King Arthur is really a timeless and favorite storyline not only for film makers but for us spectators too.

And a couple of days ago, I was able to have this chance to attend the exclusive bloggers screening of AXN Beyond's Camelot at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3.  My special thanks goes to Azrael Coladilla, AXN Beyond and Publicity Asia.
