Do Not Walk Away but Walk the World and help End Hunger

Action & Event-ure:

For me, one of the important points being debated on the current issue on Reproductive Health (RH) Bill is eradicating poverty and addressing the concern on children's poor education, nutrition and living conditions.

According to United Nation's World Food Program, hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children below five years  in old among third world countries.

And while the debate on RH Bill continues to heat up in Congress and different sectors pursue their respective agendas, we, citizens, can already start ahead addressing the said social concern, and do our part.

We can help end hunger by joining this year's World Food Program's (WFP) Walk the World Pilipinas.  Thousands of people around the world are preparing to join WFP and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29, Sunday.

In the Philippines, Walk the World will happen on the same date, May 29, Sunday, from 5:00 am to 10:00 am at the IMAX Parking Lot of SM Mall of Asia.  WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

A bloggers conference was held recently at Pizza Hut in Park Square, Makati City for the Walk the World Pilipinas 2011.

Mr. Anderson, Country Director and Representative of  United Nations World Food Programme - Philippines talks about the how the Walk the World program can help end hunger among children during the press conference.

This year's Walk the World, which is set to break records, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger. In addition to the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run. Proceeds from the event will benefit approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

Actress KC Concepcion, Ambassador of World Food Programme Philippines taped a video message for guests during the Walk the World bloggers conference.

World Food Program and its corporate partners pledged their support to the campaign.

Let's end hunger and join Walk the World Pilipinas today (www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org).  It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school. School feeding programs also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.
