The Shocking Sequel!!! -- The Hangover Part II Movie Review

Potato On-the-Go:

As fans are still in hangover with the first "The Hangover" movie shown in 2009, Warner Bros releases on June 08 the much awaited sequel of the comedy movie that rocked the world -- The Hangover Part II!

The Hangover Part II shares the adventure of the wolfpack Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), Doug (Justin Bartha) and Alan (Zach Galigianakis) as they travel all the way to Bangkok to celebrate Stu's wedding to his fiancee Lauren (Jamie Chung).  They are joined by Lauren's younger brother, Teddy (Mason Lee), a pre-med student at Stanford University, and his future father-in-law's favorite. At the wedding reception, Lauren's father shows his disapproval of Stu by mocking and comparing him to rice porridge in his toast. At the end of the night, Stu hesitantly joins Phil, Doug, Alan and Teddy for a beer. Sitting at a campfire and roasting marshmallows, despite with the embarrassment Stu went through during the pre-wedding dinner, the group toast to the couple's future happiness.  And as they wake-up with Hangover (once more!), that night, they are headed once again to discovering the surprises of the one-night fun, adventure and stupidity, they can't even remember.

And my verdict... The Hangover Part II is a shocking surprise!!!  And please take that statement in a positive way!  Right after the movie, I even had to take a coffee to calm down or people seeing me may say that I'm one big crazy man!  =D

When I first heard that there will be a sequel to this hilarious movie, I just got excited (and impatient!) to see how crazy the wolfpack will be the second time around.  I know it will be a bit challenging for them to surpass the feat of the first one as they have a very high bar to meet and beat.

The Hangover Part II did not fail its fans with the brand of comedy that it has started and is known for.  Movie goers will indeed get into hangover not with alcohol and chemicals though but with tons of laughter, shouts and shock!

The wolf pack did a lot of crazier stuff, things you won't imagine being done by groomsmen attending a wedding the following day!  I won't get into to details to avoid any spoiler but for sure, you won't leave the cinema with empty gas in your body!  =D

Bangkok is indeed a step up from the first one's Las Vegas setting.  I just don't know if the producers will get into trouble after the film is shown in Thailand's capital.  =)  Well, aside from the outrageous things the wolfpack did in the city, Bangkok differentiated the sequel from the first part as it gave the movie goers a visual treat of the tourist loved Asian city, from the spiritual temples of monks to the provocative red light district.

Editing is apt, cinematography is brilliant, music is exciting and acting is superb!  Ed Helms' as Stu did outshine the rest in the hilarious situations he went through.  If you're shocked with what he did in the first one, then you may ask for depressants to calm you down when you witness his stupidity leveled up in this sequel!  =D

Zach Galifianakis with his role as Alan on the other hand was consistent in characterization as he revealed some more of his crazy side that made the audience almost crawl the floor while laughing!

Bradley Cooper as Phil is still a turn on among the female fans but his kind of humor, the wasted guy leading a crazy bunch, where most of the male fans can relate to, earned him lots of laugh claps (which I think is a sign of respect?)  =D

Well, Ken Jeong, is a scene stealer in the movie, figuratively and literally!!!  As soon as his character is introduced, audience just can't stop laughing and pounding the armchairs!  You'll know why when you see the movie.

The movie though, started a bit slow and didn't match the non-stop laughter that the first Hangover brought, perhaps it's because it was first time to see that kind of plot.  The Hangover Part II however made a big catch up with the intensity of the outrageous situations it showed, which are a lot more shocking than the first one!!  R-18 indeed!!!  =D  After seeing this, you may probably say that the first is for GP!

And poor Doug (Justib Bartha), his role in the first Hangover had a little more excitement than what he did in this movie.  The way his role is played up though is really needed in the script.  Well, since two more in the gang is not yet married, the writers may give Doug's character a break if they are thinking of a 3rd and 4th Hangover movie!

Talking about the script, "The Hangover" template of course is there.  Expect many similarities but they were however spiced up with the outrageous conflicts and challenges exploited in the film.  So if they're thinking of a third or fourth one, it will really be challenging how to differentiate "The Hangover" situation from the first and this one.

From a scale of 1 to 10 claps, I'm giving Hangover Part II a loud 8 with shouts, popcorns thrown into the air and beer shower!!!

Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures,"The Hangover Part II" opens in Philippine theaters on June 08, 2011.
