POTATO ON THE GO BULLETIN (Musical / TV):
The network wars in the country, with the dreaded cutthroat competition around, may be considered as the most intense in recent years but forging a ceasefire isn't impossible especially for a good cause. :) In a rare occasion, broadcasting giants GMA Network, ABS-CBN and TV5 will unite to take part in the production and simultaneous airing of a two-and-a-half-hour TV special to pay homage to the late Philippine King of Comedy, Dolphy.
The TV special dubbed “Dolphy: Alay Tawa,” was an idea of one of Dolphy’s sons, director Eric Quizon, who had thought of coming up with a show that will not only have an entertainment value but also be a fund-raiser of sorts to continue the legacy of his late father who had helped his fellow through various foundations.
“Dolphy: Alay Tawa” will be produced by the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with several partners including the three major TV networks and the Mall of Asia Arena. Each of the three networks was assigned to produce three production numbers, and each number will be participated in not only by the stars of the producing network but also by stars from other networks. This means that each network will be fairly represented in every production number – from opening down to the closing.
The opening number for example will be composed by the biggest stars from each network: Ogie Alcasid and Janno Gibbs (GMA-7), Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera (ABS-CBN) and Sharon Cuneta (TV5). According to Eric, the performers have agreed to waive off their talent fees for the event. He also said that the networks will provide for their respective production numbers.
Furthermore, all three networks will simultaneously broadcast the show tentatively on September 30. To facilitate the simultaneous airing, one neutral control room will be set-up in a certain location and the signals will be beamed to the control rooms of the three networks. This will also ensure that the commercial gaps of the three will be simultaneous (The networks won’t necessarily be carrying the same set of commercials).
"Ikinararangal natin na tayo ay kaisa sa hangaring ito at masarap sa pakiramdam kasi si Tito Dolphy ay talaga namang malaki ang contribution sa ating industriya, which we are a part of. Maganda ang purpose nitong 'Alay Tawa.' Hindi lang ito magbibigay ng saya sa mga tao, marami ring matutulungan nito. It's a very worthwhile endeavor and we are very much honored to be a part of it," said Lilybeth G. Rasonable, OIC for GMA’s Entertainment TV Group.
Among the stars from all the three networks who will participate are Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Vic Sotto, Joey De Leon, Sharon Cuneta, Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon, Maricel Soriano, Roderick Paulate, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Ogie Alcasid, Edu Manzano, Janno Gibbs, Pauline Luna, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro, Shaina Magdayao, Paolo Bediones, Derek Ramsey, Mark Herras, John Estrada, Jolina Magdangal, Ruffa Gutierrez, Richard and Raymond Gutierrez, Ruby Rodriguez, Keempee de Leon, Wendel Ramos, Edgar Allan, Martin Escudero, Alex Gonzaga, Danita Paner, Jhong Hilario, Arci Munoz, Ritz Azul, Iya Villania, Denis Laurel, Melai Cantiveros, Eula Caballero, Angeline Quinto, JC de Vera, Rachelle Ann Go, Arci Munoz and the Bulilit Kids. The program will also feature the special participation of Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Rosa Rosal, Eddie Gutierrez, Nova Villa, German Moreno, Daisy Romualdez and Susan Roces.
Directed by Al Quinn with Bibeth Orteza as scriptwriter, “Dolphy: Alay Tawa” will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on September 19, 7:00pm and will be aired on September 30 at 10:30pm.
A ticket may be acquired via a minimum donation of P150 (General Admission), P250 (Upper Box) and P450 (Lower Box). Tickets are available at SM Tickets and SM Cinema ticketing booths.
